• Porsche said the two new models were launched in response to the huge demand for electric hybrid powertrains.

Late last year, Porsche unveiled the third-generation Panamera, which includes the Panamera Turbo E-Hybrid, the first of four models that will eventually be introduced. Today, the automaker added two more models: the Panamera 4 E-Hybrid and the Panamera 4S E-Hybrid.

The growth of demand

Porsche said the two new models were launched in response to “significant demand for efficient and dynamic electric hybrid systems“.In fact, even as BEV sales growth slows, demand for hybrid vehicles is growing in a variety of markets.
But it’s a Porsche, so it’s expensive. The 4 E-Hybrid starts at $117,495, while the 4S E-Hybrid starts at $128,795 (both include destination fees).Pre-orders will be accepted at the end of March, and shipments are expected to begin in the fall.

Upgrade Configuration

The Panamera 4 E-Hybrid, which combines a new hybrid powertrain with a “vastly improved” 2.9-litre v6 twin-turbo engine (producing 224 kW or 300 HP), will deliver better acceleration and better torque. The combined system has an output power of 346 kW (463 hp) and a maximum torque of 479 lb-ft.It accelerates from 0 to 60 MPH in 3.9 seconds, with a top track speed of 174 MPH.

The 4S E-Hybrid, meanwhile, will also come with a 2.9-liter, six-cylinder engine with slightly more performance and an output of 260 kilowatts or 348 horsepower. The entire system will get 400 kilowatts or 536 horsepower, with a maximum torque of 553 pound-feet.This allows the Panamera 4S E-Hybrid to go from 0 to 60 MPH in under 3.5 seconds, with a top track speed of 180 MPH.
There’s more to like about the new models, including higher charging speeds and better throttle response. The new battery is also larger, with a total capacity of 25.9 KWH, among the best in plug-in hybrids. Porsche says it has about 45 percent more production capacity than previous generations of models.

Porsche has been involved in the hybrid space for more than 10 years, with plug-in hybrid versions of the Cayenne and Panamera, as well as non-plug-in hybrid models of the Panamera and Cayenne.
