The new MOFN service supports up to 1.6 Tbps per wavelength and is designed for hyperscalers and large enterprises. Oman’s strategic role as a regional digital gateway is reinforced with the new service, offering secure and scalable connectivity. What happened: New fibre network boosts Oman’s regional connectivity Omantel and Ciena have launched a new Managed Optical Fibre Network (MOFN) to enhance Oman’s position as a regional connectivity hub. The MOFN service is designed to provide high-performance optical connectivity to hyperscalers, cloud providers, and large enterprises with demanding digital infrastructure needs. Powered by Ciena’s WaveLogic 6 coherent optics, the MOFN supports speeds of up to 1.6 Tbps per wavelength and is built to scale dynamically to meet the demands of AI processing, data centre interconnects, and hyperscale applications. The network also integrates AES-256 encryption and Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) for secure transmission, ensuring that government, financial, and corporate customers can rely on robust protection for their data. Omantel’s fibre infrastructure connects international cable landing stations and carrier-neutral data centres in Muscat and Salalah, offering real-time service level agreement (SLA) monitoring, bandwidth-on-demand, and automated provisioning. The network is managed end-to-end by Omantel, ensuring a seamless and secure experience for users.
