Nvidia sets out a new ad trial on free players’ waiting phase accounting for their service cost and the cloud gaming industry shows an common ascend in its service value.
New monetization trial
In a recent announcement, Nvidia revealed plans to introduce ads to the free version of GeForce Now, specifically during the waiting phase for online games. While Priority and Ultimate tiers will remain ad-free, free users will now encounter up to two minutes of video ads as they wait in line for the game interface. Nvidia asserts that this ad inclusion will contribute to covering the costs associated with providing services to free-tier players.
On February 27th, Nvidia will dispatch notice emails to inform free users about the impending ad trial, officially implementing the change on Wednesday, February 28th.
Escalating service cost
GeForce Now Ultimate offers an enhanced gaming experience with smoother streaming, supported by an RTX4080 in the cloud and G-Sync Monitor. However, the $20-a-month fee remains a barrier for potential users, especially without the option of a $7.99 day pass or free trial.
Back in October, Nvidia’s fee price had increased in areas outside U.S. with an extra also paid for the incremental services. This move aligns with the industry trend of elevating subscription costs and introducing ads in free-tier services to enhance overall service value.
