• Revenue reached $34.4bn as adjusted EPS rose 7.6 per cent to $1.28

• Subscriber gains lift confidence but rivalry with AT&T and T-Mobile remains intense

The fact

Verizon Communications reported Q1 revenue of $34.4 billion, up from $33.5 billion a year earlier, while adjusted EPS rose 7.6% to $1.28. It added 55,000 postpaid phone users, its first positive first quarter in 13 years. Verizon also added 127,000 fibre subscribers and 214,000 fixed wireless users. Full-year adjusted EPS guidance was raised to $4.95-$4.99 from $4.90-$4.95.

The assessment

The results indicate a credible recovery, with customer growth returning and earnings improving at the same time. However, Verizon is still rebuilding momentum against faster-growing rivals, meaning the quarter signals stabilisation rather than renewed market leadership. The upgraded outlook shows management expects recent operating gains to continue through 2026.

What to watch

Q2 postpaid phone additions will be the clearest near-term signal of whether Verizon can turn early recovery into sustained competitive momentum.
