Oracle Chairman Larry Ellison announced on Tuesday that the company is relocating its global headquarters to Nashville, Tennessee to be near a significant hub for healthcare.
Reasons for relocating
Oracle relocated its corporate headquarters from Silicon Valley to Austin, Texas in 2020. The business has been heavily investing in the healthcare industry in recent years, most notably through its $28 billion acquisition of Cerner, a major provider of medical records software. Despite Oracle’s relative youth in the healthcare industry, Ellison stated on Tuesday that he feels the company has a “moral obligation” to address issues facing the sector.
After decades of significant involvement in the healthcare industry, Nashville is now home to a thriving network of hospitals, startups, and investment firms. One of the first for-profit hospital companies in the United States, HCA Healthcare, was founded in the city in 1968, which helped to establish its reputation as a centre of healthcare.
Numerous medical professionals were drawn to Nashville by HCA, and other organizations soon followed. The Tennessean claims that Oracle has been working on its new $1.2 billion campus in the city for roughly three years.
“Our people love it here, and we think it’s the centre of our future,” Ellison said.
