Curtin University has once again secured its position as the world’s second-ranked university and Australia’s top institution for mineral and mining engineering for the eighth consecutive year, according to the 2024 QS world university rankings by subject.

Curtin University’s consistent performance in global rankings

The rankings, released on April 12, affirm Curtin’s exceptional performance across various disciplines, with 31 subject fields ranked and 18 among the top 200 globally.

Among the notable achievements, Curtin boasts five subjects within the top 50 worldwide, including mineral and mining engineering (2nd), earth and marine science (37th), geology (39th), geophysics (42nd), and petroleum engineering (49th).

Additionally, nine subjects secured positions within the top 100, encompassing fields such as architecture, civil and structural engineering, nursing, and sport-related disciplines.

Professor Harlene Hayne, vice-chancellor of Curtin University, expressed delight in the university’s continued success, emphasizing the significance of these rankings as a benchmark for university performance globally.

“The QS world university rankings by subject offer the world’s most popular source of comparative data about university performance, and I am delighted that Curtin continues its long run as the top Australian university and world’s second-ranked for mineral and mining engineering,” he said.

This year’s rankings also marked the debut of Curtin’s Medicine, English Language and Literature, and Linguistics courses, further solidifying its standing among the world’s leading academic institutions.
