- Eric Migicovsky, co-founder of Beeper, a multi-web messaging application, will become Automattic’s head of messaging, and Beeper and Texts.com, which was acquired by Automattic last year, will work together.
- Beeper’s Android app, which was recently rebuilt from the ground up, has also been tested and released publicly, and now allows networking without the need for a desktop computer.
OUR TAKE
Beeper was recently acquired by Automattic. Firstly, Automattic has a wealth of technology and resources as the company behind WordPress, which means Beeper is expected to receive better technical support and growth. Secondly, Beeper is open to everyone and has completely revamped its Android app, which will provide a wider user base and a better user experience. In addition, Beeper and Texts.com may merge into one platform, which will further enhance user convenience and functionality. Overall, Beeper’s acquisition and changes are positive.

Revamping and opening of the app
Beeper and Texts.com are expected to merge into a single platform that more closely aligns with their respective mission statements.Beeper CEO Matt Mullenweg has known Automattic CEO Matt Mullenweg for many years, and he’s excited to be supported by organisations known for great open source projects like WordPress, WooCommerce, Pocket Casts, and Simplenote.
Beeper announced that 115,000 people have tested its app, and 466,000 waitlisted users will be invited to use the service. Rebuilt from the ground up, the Android app is now publicly available, eliminating the need for a desktop computer to set up a network. The Android app is now out of beta and can now set up a network without the need for a desktop.

Apple’s Information Services and Regulation
Beeper is a messaging application that is useful for sending messages on networks such as X, LinkedIn, Facebook and Instagram. Its native iMessage service has been successful on cloud-hosted Macs. Beeper’s iMessage bridge has the option to compile its own, but it is not available for free time projects.
Beeper has given up on its goal of enabling encrypted iMessage access to everyone in December 2023, which may have prompted regulators to scrutinise Apple’s members-only messaging. The Department of Justice’s antitrust lawsuit against Apple highlights perception issues surrounding iPhones’ green bubbles. Apple has pledged to support enhanced RCS features for non-Apple devices and avoided opening up its iMessage protocol under the European Digital Markets Act due to its insufficient influence in business communications.
