    • NTT has acquired land in high-growth regions, including a 53-acre site in Milan for 128MW of capacity and 32 acres in Tochigi Inter Industrial Park near Tokyo for two data centres totalling approximately 100MW.
    • The company has also expanded its presence in existing markets, securing 174 acres in Arizona for a new campus with seven data centres and 26.3 acres in London for a new facility (LON2).

What happened: NTT expands global data centre footprint with $10 billion investment

NTT has announced a major expansion of its global data centre division, acquiring land across North America, Europe, and Asia over the past six months. This expansion is part of its previously announced $10 billion investment strategy, which aims to scale its global data centre infrastructure through 2027.

The recent land acquisitions span both new and existing markets, aimed at delivering scalable, AI-ready infrastructure. New markets include a 53-acre site in Milan, which offers 128MW of capacity, serving hyperscale and AI infrastructure needs, alongside 32 acres in the Tochigi Inter Industrial Park near Tokyo, with plans to build two data centres totalling approximately 100MW.

Meanwhile, NTT DATA has purchased new land to expand its existing presence in Hillsboro, Oregon, acquired 174 acres for a new campus in Arizona, featuring seven data centres with a planned capacity of 324MW, secured 26.3 acres for a new facility in London (LON2), and acquired the freehold of its current data centres in the city.

Doug Adams, CEO of NTT Data and president of global data centres, stated, “By bringing new capacity to high-growth regions, we’re building the foundation enterprises need to innovate, scale and lead confidently in an AI-driven economy.”

    Why it’s important

This expansion reflects NTT’s commitment to meeting the growing demand for data centre capacity driven by AI, cloud computing, and digital transformation. By proactively investing in high-growth regions, NTT aims to provide enterprises with the infrastructure needed to support their digital initiatives and stay ahead in an increasingly connected world.

The acquisition of land in strategic locations allows NTT to build scalable, AI-ready data centres that can accommodate the evolving needs of businesses. The company’s investment strategy underscores its focus on delivering resilient, sustainable infrastructure to support its clients’ success.
