    Mercedes-Benz unveils AI-enhanced MBUX virtual assistant for personalized driving experience

    Mercedes-Benz is enhancing its in-car voice assistant with generative AI, running on the next-gen MB.OS operating system. The upgraded MBUX Virtual Assistant aims to provide a more human-like interface, offering personalized and predictive interactions for drivers. Examples include playing morning news upon entering the vehicle or suggesting dialing into a meeting based on the owner’s calendar. The voice assistant, part of the MBUX system introduced in 2018, will utilize large-language models for natural dialogue and feature personality traits like natural, predictive, personal, and empathetic. The assistant can be customized to fit the driver’s preferences. Mercedes is not disclosing the specific company behind its generative AI technology. The company previously mentioned testing OpenAI‘s ChatGPT for its cars but did not confirm its use in the latest press release. The first cars with MB.OS are expected in 2025 with the Mercedes Modular Architecture. The Concept CLA offers a preview of these vehicles, featuring added videoconferencing options and Surround Navigation with 3D graphics powered by Unity’s game engine.
