Musk’s xAI to launch an improved version of the chatbot Grok

  • Elon Musk said on Tuesday that artificial intelligence startup xAI will launch an enhanced version of its chatbot Grok.
  • Grok-1.5 will be made available to early testers and existing Grok users on social media platform X in the coming days.
  • Earlier this month, Musk said xAI would open-source Grok after he sued OpenAI.

Elon Musk’s AI startup is set to unveil an upgraded version of Grok, a competitor to OpenAI’s ChatGPT, as the global AI race intensifies further with growing interest in chatbots.

xAI’s chatbot Grok

In December, the startup rolled out Grok for Premium+ subscribers of X.

According to xAI’s Grok’s official website, Grok is an AI modeled after the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, so intended to answer almost anything and, far harder, even suggest what questions to ask.

The startup said one of the most notable improvements in the new version is its performance in coding and math-related tasks.

xAI unveiled Grok as its flagship product in early November. Musk has said the world needed an alternative AI option to Google and Microsoft, a major investor in OpenAI.

On Tuesday, Musk announced that Grok is fully open to premium subscribers of the X.

Muck sued OpenAI

Earlier this month, Musk said xAI would open-source Grok after he sued OpenAI for allegedly abandoning its original mission in favor of a for-profit model.

The move could give the public free access to experiment with the code behind the technology and align xAI with firms such as Meta and France’s Mistral, both of which have open-source AI models.
