OpenAI started as a non-profit in 2015 and transitioned to a for-profit company in 2019. 2020 has so far released products such as ChatGPT, Sora, and DALL-E, and maintains a strong partnership with Microsoft, which owns the exclusive licence to use GPT.

Fun fact about Elon Musk and OpenAI: the Tesla CEO and co-founder of OpenAI started xAI last year as a challenger of OpenAI and released Grok, its first AI macro-model product.

He said in a lawsuit filed in San Francisco Superior Court that OpenAI and its current CEO, Sam Altman, had gone against the non-profit, open-source vision of OpenAI when it was originally founded and instead pursued commercial profit.

ChatGPT: One of the most commonly used chatbots

ChatGPT is a chatbot developed by OpenAI and first launched on November 30, 2022. Based on large language models(LLM), it enables users to refine and steer a conversation towards a desired length, format, style, level of detail, and language.
