    • EXA selected as landing partner for IOEMA’s submarine cable.
    • IOEMA’s 1,600 km network will enhance Northern European connectivity.

What happened: New partnership to strengthen connectivity

EXA Infrastructure has been selected as the landing partner for IOEMA’s new submarine cable in Leiston, UK. The cable, part of a 1,600 km high-capacity network, will connect key Northern European markets, including the UK, Netherlands, Germany, Denmark, and Norway. EXA will also provide critical backhaul connectivity to major data centres, including Telehouse London and Equinix.

The new network aims to provide low-latency direct links and offer alternative routes to Dublin and northern UK regions, bypassing London. Leiston, one of EXA’s 20 cable landing stations, is an important gateway between the UK and the Netherlands. This partnership further strengthens connectivity to the Nordics and across transatlantic pathways. Steve Roberts, SVP at EXA, emphasised the importance of this project. He stated, “Our expertise in delivering complex subsea landing solutions positions us as leaders in advanced connectivity.”

    Why it’s important

The partnership between EXA Infrastructure and IOEMA is a significant step in enhancing Northern European connectivity. IOEMA’s high-capacity submarine cable will link five key markets, providing essential infrastructure for Hyperscalers and Content Providers. The project ensures that these markets benefit from diverse and resilient connectivity, which is crucial for modern business operations.

EXA’s extensive owned fibre network, combined with the strategic location of Leiston, makes this a game-changing project. It not only provides low-latency connections but also offers backup routes and increased access to transatlantic links, strengthening the overall infrastructure. As demand for faster and more reliable internet grows, this partnership is critical to meeting the needs of businesses in the region.
