    • APNIC’s Executive Council releases a response to the 2024 survey findings, highlighting key areas for improvement.
    • The feedback will inform the development of APNIC’s 2025 Activity Plan, aimed at better serving the community.

What happened: APNIC responds to 2024 survey feedback

APNIC’s Executive Council (EC) has published its official response to the 2024 APNIC Survey on December 13. It provides insights into how community feedback will shape its priorities moving forward. The survey, which is conducted every two years, collects input from APNIC’s members, including internet service providers, organizations, and other stakeholders in the Asia-Pacific region. The findings of this year’s survey have helped the EC to craft the APNIC 2025 Activity Plan, which will be released soon. The EC emphasized the importance of community engagement, encouraging members to share their feedback beyond the survey to ensure continuous improvement. The release of this response marks a critical step in aligning APNIC’s services with the evolving needs of the community.

    What it’s important

APNIC’s response to the 2024 survey underscores the growing importance of community-driven governance in the digital age. As the Asia-Pacific region continues to expand its digital infrastructure, regional internet organizations must remain responsive to the diverse needs of their communities. By using survey feedback to shape its 2025 Activity Plan, APNIC demonstrates a flexible governance model that adapts to the region’s rapidly changing technological landscape, such as the expansion of 5G networks and IoT devices.

One key benefit of this inclusive approach is the support it offers to smaller internet service providers (ISPs). For example, consider a small ISP like MyISP, a local provider in a remote part of Southeast Asia. MyISP faces unique challenges, such as limited access to IP address resources and technical expertise for scaling its network. By participating in the APNIC survey, MyISP can voice these concerns, knowing that its feedback will be considered in APNIC’s future service offerings. This could lead to more tailored support for smaller providers, ensuring they have the necessary resources to compete and expand.
