- HyperVault and its partners expect to invest up to Rs70,000 crore, with development phased in line with customer demand and technology requirements
- The first-phase MW, power supply, customer commitments and construction timing remain undisclosed, so 1GW is a full-build target rather than current capacity
The fact
HyperVault, a subsidiary of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), said on 5 September that it had secured 264 acres in Hyderabad for an AI data-centre campus planned at up to 1GW. The site is intended for frontier AI companies and hyperscalers running high-density GPU workloads for AI training, inference and advanced computing.
TCS said HyperVault and its partners expect to invest up to Rs70,000 crore to build and manage the campus. Development will be phased in line with customer demand and technology requirements. TCS said the design will use liquid-cooled compute infrastructure and incorporate green energy and water-neutral principles.
TCS has not disclosed the capacity of the first phase, its power-supply arrangements, construction start or customer commitments tied to the site. The 1GW figure therefore describes the planned campus at full build-out rather than capacity under construction or in service.
The assessment
The Hyderabad project gives TCS a physical infrastructure layer for its broader “Infrastructure-to-Intelligence” strategy. HyperVault is not simply adding another service to TCS’s portfolio; the company is taking responsibility for a site where power, cooling, compute and network capacity will have to be built and operated alongside its existing cloud, engineering and enterprise technology businesses.
The 1GW figure, however, describes the campus at full build-out. TCS says development will follow customer demand and technology requirements, so the commercial commitment will become clearer one phase at a time. The size of the first block, the power secured for it and the customers attached to that capacity will matter more in the near term than the ultimate campus total.
For BTW readers, HyperVault extends TCS further into the infrastructure on which AI services run. The next evidence of that strategy will be a defined first phase with power, customers and a construction schedule, rather than another increase in the headline capacity figure.
What to watch
Watch for the first-phase capacity, power-supply arrangement, anchor customers, planning approvals and construction start. A phase-by-phase investment schedule would show how the expected Rs70,000 crore maps onto actual delivery. The key test is whether HyperVault ties a defined MW block to power and customers rather than adding detail only to the full 1GW plan.
