Summary

  • RIPE NCC’s approved 2026 plan targets 2,400 Assisted Registry Checks; its draft 2027 plan targets 2,800 and calls that level “sustaining.”
  • The 2027 draft gives Registry Monitoring 10.3 FTE/EoR and €1.550 million, against 10.5 and €1.515 million in the 2026 budget. A new self-service check is a separate proposed route.

Four hundred checks have appeared between two plans. The approved 2026 Activity Plan sets 2,400 Assisted Registry Checks, including remote reviews and checks at RIPE NCC events. The 2027 draft says it will execute 2,800. In its strategic overview, that draft calls 2,800 a target it will “sustain.” A reader comparing the published annual targets sees an increase of one sixth.

There is a reason 2,800 sounds familiar. At the May 2026 General Meeting, Managing Director Hans Petter Holen said the registry completed 2,800 checks in 2025, 400 more than the year before. That was a completed year, not the target written into the approved 2026 plan. The draft has picked up a previous result while the intervening public plan still says 2,400.

The staffing arithmetic gives the wording stakes. The 2027 budget table assigns Registry Monitoring 10.3 FTE/EoR, down from 10.5, and €1.550 million in operating cost, up €35,000. Holen told the RIPE 93 Services session that self-service Registry Checks should lift verification without adding manual workload. Those self-service checks are a new channel; the 2,800 target remains explicitly for assisted checks.

The 2027 plan is still a draft, with final Board approval due in December. A dated revision to the 2026 target or the full-year 2026 count would establish what “sustaining” measures. Until then, the published comparison is 2,400 planned checks followed by 2,800 planned checks, on slightly fewer monitoring staff.
