Summary

A supplier relationship can continue while the scope of work a product may accept narrows. That is the distinction inside Consilio's latest agreement with Relativity. Commercial continuity is not the same thing as keeping every deployment option open for future work.

In its 8 September announcement, Consilio says it will continue providing RelativityOne and Relativity aiR under a renewed multi-year contract. Server remains available through the end of its new-matter window in January 2028, with existing matters and workspaces supported afterwards in line with Relativity's policy. The release does not announce a special deadline extension.

The immediate news is that the service provider will retain both sides of that customer relationship. It is not a newly announced policy requiring every existing matter to leave Server at once.

Two permissions, not one expiry date

Relativity's Server Support Policy distinguishes continuing use from new intake. Its 2028 restriction covers new matters, new workspaces and repurposing existing workspaces. A limited route for specific written permission exists where RelativityOne is unavailable to a customer. Nothing reviewed establishes that Consilio or all its clients receive such an exception.

The vendor's transition FAQ says licensed customers can open new Server matters and workspaces through 31 December 2027. Existing matters can continue receiving support; the vendor states there is no current plan to discontinue Server. Maintenance and security patches continue, but new feature development does not.

That is a more precise commercial position than either “Server shuts down in 2028” or “the renewal leaves everything unchanged”. Both descriptions would erase an important boundary.

Support also has a version and a scope

The FAQ requires instances to be on the then-current Server version from 1 January 2028. Continuing an old matter is therefore not permission to leave an unsupported installation untouched. The support policy separately limits technical assistance to supported versions.

It also excludes database and case migrations from standard customer support. That does not prove Consilio cannot provide a separately scoped migration service. It does mean that a continuing software-support promise should not quietly be treated as a paid-for migration project.

The announcement gives no contract price, exact multi-year end date, customer migration total or allocation of transition costs. Access to aiR is not evidence of a measured improvement in a particular legal outcome.

The operational question is consequently how Consilio's clients divide continuing Server work from the destination of new work, and who delivers each part. The renewal preserves a provider relationship through that distinction; it does not abolish it.
