Summary

  • Use AR when physical context must remain visible and VR when controlled immersion is the point.
  • Measure calibration, comfort, learning transfer, safety and content cost with the intended users.

The labels describe different attention contracts. AR can guide repair or navigation but depends on accurate registration; VR can simulate a dangerous or distant setting but isolates the user and requires a complete scene. The next useful evidence is a task comparison against a conventional screen, tracking errors, completion and after-effects. Immersion earns its cost when it improves a defined outcome without creating a larger operational burden.
