- Micron announced fiscal 2026 rewards including a NT$1 million cash bonus for eligible Taiwan employees
- Union talks remain unresolved, but there is no confirmed strike, production disruption or change to customer deliveries
The fact
Micron announced new rewards for employees in Taiwan while talks with employee representatives over bonuses remained unresolved. Employees who joined before 29 August 2025 are eligible for a NT$1 million cash bonus, while people hired during fiscal 2026 will receive a proportional payment. Micron also announced performance and equity awards. CNA reported the company as saying total annual compensation for Taiwan production staff would amount to 35–68 months of salary, rather than an additional 68 monthly bonus payments.
Reuters reported that unions representing about two-thirds of Micron's roughly 15,000 employees in Taiwan had indicated support for a strike. Mediation had not produced an agreement, and another round was expected. No work stoppage had been confirmed. Taiwan remains an important manufacturing base for Micron. The company acquired a Tongluo facility in March for future advanced-memory production, with meaningful shipments expected in fiscal 2028 after the site is upgraded.
The assessment
Micron is offering substantial payments to its Taiwan employees, but that does not mean the labour dispute is over. The company has announced what workers will receive, while talks with employee representatives are still continuing. For customers, the important question is whether those talks eventually affect production.
There is no evidence so far that Micron has stopped production or changed customer deliveries. Its planned expansion at Tongluo also offers little protection against a near-term disruption because meaningful shipments from that site are not expected until fiscal 2028.
For BTW readers, the situation becomes more important if mediation fails and workers actually stop work, or if Micron changes production or delivery guidance. Until then, this remains a labour dispute at a major manufacturing base rather than a confirmed problem for memory-chip supply.
What to watch
Watch the next round of mediation and any joint statement from Micron and employee representatives. A settlement would reduce the immediate uncertainty, while a confirmed work stoppage or any change to production and customer-delivery schedules would show that the dispute has begun affecting operations.
