Summary
- HKBN's revenue rose 6% to HK$11.821 billion in the twelve months to 31 August 2026. Capital expenditure rose 36% to HK$692 million, while the company's adjusted free cash flow inched up 1% to HK$681 million.
- Net interest paid fell by HK$218 million. That saving met HK$182 million more capex and HK$95 million more working-capital outflow. The cash gain was just HK$4 million.
The interest bill became a building budget
The headline profit number is a handsome one: up 53%, to HK$317 million. The HKBN filing at Hong Kong Exchanges supplies the less photogenic arithmetic. Revenue grew 6%; EBITDA grew 1%; adjusted free cash flow grew 1%. The debt bill, rather than a sudden leap in operating cash, gave management room to spend.
Net interest paid fell from HK$621 million to HK$403 million. Capital expenditure moved the other way, from HK$511 million to HK$692 million. Working-capital outflow widened from HK$41 million to HK$136 million. Together, the extra investment and cash tied up in operations exceeded the interest saving. Smaller movements in EBITDA, taxes, leases and customer acquisition costs brought HKBN's adjusted free cash flow from HK$677 million to HK$681 million. Four million dollars is a very small parade for an eleven-billion-dollar business.
The growth was uneven. Enterprise Solutions revenue rose 13% to HK$6.234 billion; residential revenue slipped 1% to HK$2.301 billion. Residential broadband subscriptions still rose from 907,000 to 928,000. HKBN is putting money into network coverage and upgrades while its corporate business supplies the revenue momentum. Its filing gives no separate revenue line for the new AI offering. The measurable wager is enterprise growth and the capital deployed to sustain it.
The company now has a December year-end. Its next audited accounts will span sixteen months, and the board withheld a second interim dividend pending the final decision after year-end. The unusual calendar makes a quick year-on-year headline especially easy to misread. The harder test is whether later reports turn the extra HK$182 million of capex into durable cash, with or without another HK$218 million interest-rate gift.
