Summary

  • RIPE NCC’s live policy index dates the Review Phase of proposal 2026-01 from 12 October 2027 to 10 November 2026: its start is 336 days after its end.
  • RIPE NCC’s own 12 October 2026 announcement says the four-week review was already open and asks for comments before 10 November 2026.

RIPE NCC has managed to give one policy review two incompatible clocks. The current-proposals page lists “Simplify assignment of first ASN” as open for discussion. Under Review Phase, it puts the start on 12 October 2027 and the end on 10 November 2026. Reading down the official timeline requires going backwards 336 days.

The proposal detail dates version 2.0 to 12 October 2026. More decisively, policy officer Angela Dall’Ara’s announcement that day says the Review Phase is now open, calls it four weeks and asks for comments before 10 November 2026. That is the usable clock. The index has given its starting year an extra digit of ambition.

The proposal has a real decision behind the calendar. It would remove a needs assessment for the first ASN requested by a holder of a prefix allocated or assigned directly by RIPE NCC. Version 2.0 keeps a routing-policy record in the RIPE Database when that ASN is in use. At the close of review, the Address Policy Working Group chairs judge rough consensus. A reader arriving through the index needs a reliable date to take part before that judgment.

The public pages do not date when the wrong year entered the index. A dated revision record would establish how long it stayed there. For now the registry’s mailing-list notice tells participants when to speak; the registry’s main policy list tells them the review begins after their chance has expired.
