- Trinovium signed Red Team Investments for a paid US pilot of direct-to-chip cooling fluids and analytical systems
- The pilot will test the coolant in operation; capacity, contract value and energy performance have not been disclosed
The fact
Trinity Biotech said on 9 September that its Trinovium subsidiary had signed a contract with Texas-based Red Team Investments to supply cooling fluids and analytical systems for a US commercial pilot. Red Team owns the X-MDC modular data-centre technology.
The agreement covers paid product supply and work on direct-to-chip liquid cooling. The companies plan to carry out integration and testing before deployment and the collection of operating data. They have not disclosed the pilot's capacity, contract value or measured energy performance.
Trinovium said when it launched in June that its initial water-based coolant was designed around high purity, corrosion protection and manufacturing consistency. The company also said it could use existing US and European production capacity developed for precision healthcare fluids. Those are product and manufacturing claims; the new pilot will provide an opportunity to test the coolant in Red Team's equipment over time.
The assessment
Once coolant enters an operating cooling loop, the purchasing question extends beyond its initial specification. Red Team will need to understand how the fluid behaves over time, whether its condition changes and what maintenance is required to keep the cooling system within its operating limits. The companies have not yet reported those results.
Acceptance can therefore be tied to defined test conditions and maintenance records. Measures such as replacement intervals, evidence of contamination or deterioration and the reasons for any fluid treatment or replacement would help Red Team judge the product in its own equipment. These are possible evaluation measures, not results disclosed by the partners.
For BTW readers, the commercial milestone is the decision that follows the pilot. A repeat order backed by operating evidence would show that Red Team has accepted the coolant for this application. It would not, by itself, establish the same performance across other cooling systems or entire data-centre facilities.
What to Watch
Watch for disclosure of the pilot's test conditions, operating period and coolant-maintenance results. A follow-on order would provide stronger evidence of customer acceptance if the partners also explain which performance or maintenance requirements were met during the trial.
