Efforts to promote domestic production of key technologies

The United States plans to give TSMC $6.6 billion in grants and nearly $5 billion in loans to help the world’s top chipmaker build a factory in Arizona, expanding President Joe Biden’s efforts to boost domestic production of key technologies.

Under the agreement, TSMC will build a third plant in Phoenix and add two more in the state, with production expected to begin in 2025 and 2028. In total, the package will support TSMC’s investment of more than $65 billion in the three plants. TSMC’s third manufacturing site will rely on next-generation 2-nanometer process technology.
