Summary
- Members approved the 2026 deficit rule by 583 weighted Yes to 432 No, with 87 blank; its 57.44% Yes share sends any deficit to members in 2027.
- The Articles amendments won 761 Yes to 172 No, with 169 blank. Their 81.56% Yes share was 24.12 points higher than support for the rule that could reach members’ bills.
RIPE NCC members have written themselves a bill that may never arrive. If the 2026 accounts close in the red, they cover any deficit in 2027; an excess contribution stays in reserves. The rule won a narrow weighted majority. In the same meeting, the Articles amendments cleared with much wider support. Members backed the association’s structural rewrite far more comfortably than a rule that could reach their 2027 contributions.
The financial motion sends an excess contribution to RIPE NCC reserves. If the 2026 accounts show a deficit, the 2027 membership covers it. The voting report says the rejected alternative would have returned an excess to members and covered a deficit from reserves. That is a real change in where the year’s result lands, not a bookkeeping footnote.
The second resolution adopted the Board’s proposed Articles amendments and authorised it to complete execution before a Dutch civil-law notary. One motion changed the association’s Articles; the other changed where a possible 2026 surplus or deficit would land.
Participation was 86.43% by voting weight: 1,102 of 1,275 eligible weight voted. By individual count, 660 of 806 eligible voters cast a vote, or 81.89%. The report keeps participation by voting weight separate from participation by individual voter.
The voting report does not show Yes and No results by RegID or country, and it gives no final 2026 surplus or deficit amount. Those details would show whether the narrow financial margin was geographically concentrated and what sum the rule will allocate.
