Summary
- RIPE’s Code of Conduct Team received two reports during RIPE 93; both remained open. Each had an assessment group, a conflict check and contact with both parties.
- A separate report received since the team’s RIPE 92 presentation ended with a violation finding and warning. Two volunteer terms end at RIPE 93 as the team asks for new members.
At RIPE 93’s closing plenary on 30 October, the team gave the community a queue count, not a clock. Two reports had arrived during the meeting; both cases were still open. Sebastian Becker said each had an assessment group, a conflict-of-interest check and contact with both parties. The update named no report subjects and gave no age for either case.
That gap matters to anyone who relies on a confidential reporting channel. The public can know how long a case has been open without knowing who filed it or what it concerns. Age bands and stage changes would show whether cases are moving while keeping identities private.
Becker also separated this meeting’s queue from an earlier report: since the team’s RIPE 92 presentation, it had received one report, found a violation and issued a warning. That case was resolved. The two RIPE 93 cases were still open when he spoke; they are a different period, not a running total.
The roster puts a second clock beside the cases. RIPE lists nine team members: seven community volunteers and two RIPE NCC staff. Two volunteer terms are marked to end at RIPE 93. Becker said the team had not changed since its previous presentation, had recruited at a NOG in September and at the RIPE 93 NOG lunch, and needed members because not everyone can attend every meeting.
The team is preparing an FAQ and a transparency report. Becker said the report needs care to protect private and confidential information. No publication date was announced. The next useful public account can pair those privacy safeguards with aggregate case-age bands, stage transitions and a dated reporting schedule.
The follow-up is concrete: who renews or joins after RIPE 93, how long the open cases have been in each stage, and when the transparency report will appear. Those records would let the community assess continuity and process pace without learning case identities.
