• Corvex expects critical IT power capacity to increase from about 1.5MW to about 8MW by the end of 2026 through expansions at two existing US data centres
  • Both sites are expected to be ready in the fourth quarter with about 3,000 additional GPUs, while a further 12.5MW at the Midwest site remains optional

The fact

Corvex plans to increase its data-centre IT capacity from about 1.5MW to 8MW by the end of 2026. The expansion will come from adding capacity at its existing Mid-Atlantic site and taking space at a second data centre in the Midwest. Both facilities already have utility power and are expected to be ready in the fourth quarter.

The company plans to install about 2,000 new GPUs at the Midwest site and another 1,000 at the Mid-Atlantic facility. Corvex expects the additional capacity to start generating revenue in the first quarter of 2027. It is also raising about $33 million through a private placement to help finance the expansion.

Corvex could expand further at the Midwest site, where it has first refusal on another 12.5MW expected to become available in the third quarter of 2027. It has not committed to that capacity, however, so it remains a possible next phase rather than part of the current 8MW expansion.

The assessment

Corvex has committed to enough data-centre capacity to reach about 8MW, but it has not made the same commitment to the additional 12.5MW. That gives the company a clear break between the expansion already under way and a much larger second step that it can decide on later.

Before taking that next step, Corvex still has to turn the first expansion into working capacity with customer workloads behind it. The company has said it is speaking with prospective customers, but it has not announced contracts covering the new capacity. Bringing the 8MW online therefore does not by itself establish a case for taking another 12.5MW.

For BTW readers, the important decision comes after the current expansion is in service. Corvex can see how much of the 8MW is being used before deciding whether to take the additional Midwest capacity. Until it exercises that right, the 12.5MW is expansion potential rather than infrastructure the company has committed to deploy.

What to watch

Watch whether both data-centre deployments are ready in the fourth quarter and whether the planned 3,000 GPUs are installed on schedule. Customer contracts and the first revenue from the expanded capacity, expected from the first quarter of 2027, will show how quickly the new infrastructure moves into use.
