Analysis
At 03:00, the software gets a colleague
Most small businesses do not need another dashboard that turns a red dot into a management philosophy. They need somebody to decide whether the red dot is a false alarm, a compromised account or the beginning of a very long morning.
That is the product Telia is trying to sell with Secure 24/7. Launched on 20 October, the service is aimed at small and medium-sized businesses. Telia says it monitors computers, servers, Microsoft 365 environments and user accounts around the clock. Known threats can be stopped automatically. When an incident is more complex, security specialists investigate; they can isolate affected devices and start recovery work. Evenings, weekends and holidays are included.
The human handoff is the point. Detection software can identify a pattern at any hour. A person has to decide what to do with it, and whether the machine that looks suspicious should be cut off before it takes the rest of the office with it. Telia is packaging that judgement as an operating service for firms that may not have a security team waiting beside the coffee machine.
Telia supports the launch with figures from its own Digital Index 2026: almost one in four medium-sized companies, defined as having 51–249 employees, said they had experienced a security incident in the previous year; fewer than half of small companies had round-the-clock security monitoring. Those figures come from Telia’s survey. Its launch page gives no sample size or method.
The list price stops where the people start
Telia’s service page makes the commercial boundary unusually visible. Backup is listed at SEK 49 per licence per month. Security Package Basic is SEK 70 per user per month; Standard is SEK 100. Secure 24/7 sits in a different box: “Contact us for price.”
That split makes intuitive sense. A human response service depends on what is monitored, how many users and devices are in scope, what the customer authorises the analysts to do, and how incidents are escalated. Telia’s public page does not publish those terms or a response-time commitment. The buyer can see the shelf price for the simpler packages and must start a sales conversation for the one that promises a person on duty.
The offer therefore sells two things at once: monitoring technology and access to a response capability outside office hours. Whether that is economical for a particular company depends on the contract and the work it removes from the customer’s own staff. The public materials do not show the price or service-level terms needed to compare those costs. A published price structure and response commitment would change that assessment.
A useful service still has to show its receipt
Telia has put a concrete scope on the page: endpoints, servers, Microsoft 365, accounts, automatic handling of known threats and expert attention for harder cases. That is more specific than the comforting promise to “take security seriously,” a phrase that has protected many a brochure from having to name a deliverable.
The next useful disclosure is operational. How quickly does an alert reach an analyst? Which actions can the analyst take without calling the customer? What counts as an incident handled, contained or recovered? How are false positives and customer-caused delays recorded? These are the measures that let a buyer distinguish round-the-clock monitoring from a phone number that is technically awake.
Until those terms appear, Secure 24/7 is a defined service with an undefined public price and an unpublished response standard. The sales call may answer both questions. Publishing them would let the buyer arrive with better ones.
