T-Mobile is one of the largest mobile network operators in the United States, operating a nationwide 5G network, while Netcracker is a well-established telecom software provider and a subsidiary of NEC, specialising in BSS/OSS and digital transformation platforms. The expanded deployment will see Netcracker’s cloud-native BSS/OSS platform rolled out across T-Mobile’s wholesale division, which supports mobile virtual network operators (MVNOs) and enterprise Internet of Things (IoT) customers that rely on T-Mobile’s network infrastructure.

Built on microservices and cloud-native architecture, the platform is designed to replace legacy, monolithic systems and enable faster onboarding of partners, increased automation and more efficient operations. According to the companies, the new system could reduce service launch timelines from months to weeks, allowing wholesale partners to bring new offerings to market more rapidly. The platform also supports automated revenue management, enhanced security controls and real-time service orchestration, while laying the groundwork for future capabilities such as AI-driven analytics and personalised service configuration.

Wholesale, MVNO and IoT services demand flexible, API-driven platforms that can scale quickly and integrate seamlessly with partners’ systems. Deepening its partnership with Netcracker allows T-Mobile to standardise these capabilities across its wholesale operations.

More broadly, the move reflects an industry-wide transition away from on-premise, tightly coupled systems toward cloud-native architectures that improve time-to-market, operational efficiency and cost control. However, large-scale cloud migration of core operational systems also introduces challenges, including integration complexity, vendor dependency and heightened cybersecurity risks, which operators must actively manage.
