Summary

  • Middleton says she skipped re-election after her university-director role became too demanding; that role ended in 2024, and she says she now has time for ARIN again.
  • Her filing lists two current boards. ARIN’s own guidance puts trustee work at about 5–10 hours a week, with meeting and committee demands that vary over the year.

Board service consumes the weeks when the calendar is crowded. A résumé and a questionnaire answer cannot hold a meeting or prepare a committee agenda.

Catherine Middleton served on the ARIN Board from January 2020 through December 2022, according to ARIN’s former-trustee roster. In her 2026 candidate questionnaire, she says she did not seek re-election because the Director role at Toronto Metropolitan University’s School of Information Technology Management demanded her time. That director term ended in 2024. She now says she has the capacity to rejoin.

The role she is asking voters to fill has a published workload. ARIN’s questionnaire tells candidates that trustees usually spend about 5–10 hours a week. Its qualifications and responsibilities guide says the load changes by year: a January in-person meeting lasting a day and a half, an April ARIN Public Policy and Members Meeting over two and a half days, a two-day August in-person planning session, and a two-day October meeting. The other months bring monthly teleconferences. Committee work varies; the guide lists about one to two hours each week for Board preparation and correspondence.

Middleton’s filing says “No barriers” to meeting the role’s demands. The same filing lists her as a CCTS Board member since 2020, with a term through 2028, and as chair of its Service Delivery, Strategic Planning and Budget working groups. It also lists a Council of Canadian Academies Board term that began in 2024 and runs through 2027. Toronto Metropolitan University identifies her as a professor whose research covers telecommunications policy, broadband markets and digital inclusion.

The school-director job that kept her from seeking another ARIN term ended in 2024; the CCTS and CCA board seats remain. Her filing gives no weekly hours for CCTS or CCA, and ARIN’s guide does not say whether its one to two hours for preparation and correspondence fall within the 5–10-hour range; those figures would sharpen the capacity assessment.

ARIN’s 2026 vote closed on 30 October. The Board is scheduled to confirm the result on 5 November, with results due by 6 November and new terms starting on 1 January 2027. Eligible General Member organizations vote through their designated Voting Contacts. Candidate endorsements may inform them; their ballots choose the trustees.
