Summary

  • ARIN’s 29 October transfer record moves 48.100.0.0–48.101.255.255, a /15 with 131,072 IPv4 addresses, from The Prudential Insurance Company of America to OpenAI OpCo, LLC.
  • Six calendar days earlier, a separate ARIN record moved AS232 from Merit Network Inc. to the same recipient; current RDAP lists OpenAI for both resources.

The address story begins in an insurer’s 1990 ledger. ARIN’s 2 November transfer export shows The Prudential Insurance Company of America as the source of a block first registered in 1990: 48.96.0.0 through 48.101.255.255. On 29 October, only the last two /16s moved to OpenAI OpCo, LLC. That transfer set is 48.100.0.0/15, or 131,072 IPv4 addresses.

The current OpenAI RDAP object covers exactly 48.100.0.0–48.101.255.255 and carries the same 29 October registration time. The Prudential object now covers 48.96.0.0–48.99.255.255: the four /16s left behind. ARIN did not merely change a label over the whole 1990 range. Its public records show a split, with the insurance company retaining four parts and the AI firm holding two.

Another line in the same transfer log moved AS232 from Merit Network Inc. to OpenAI OpCo, LLC on 23 October. ARIN RDAP now names OPENAI for AS232. The two transactions are six calendar days apart and give the same company both a sizeable IPv4 block and an autonomous system number. A 2024 ARIN transfer had brought it a separate /23 of 512 addresses; this /15 is 256 times that particular block. The public records give no price or joint deployment plan.
