What happened

Empyrion Digital, an APAC data centre firm, is expanding into Japan with plans to develop a 25MW AI-ready data centre in Tokyo. The new facility, named JP1, will be a five-story, 21,000 sqm (226,040 sq ft) building, designed to be a Tier III-quality, carrier-neutral hub.

Construction is set to start in 2025, with operations expected by late 2027. Mark Fong, CEO of Empyrion Digital, emphasised that this move marks a significant milestone, positioning the company to meet the growing demands for digital infrastructure in Japan, a key market for innovation in Asia.

Launched by Seraya Partners in 2021, Empyrion currently operates a 7.7MW data centre in Singapore and is building a 29.4MW facility in Seoul, South Korea. James Chern, managing partner at Seraya, highlighted Japan’s importance as the world’s fourth-largest economy, reinforcing Seraya’s commitment to acquiring and developing high-value infrastructure projects like JP1 Tokyo.
