  • Phase one of the Jakarta campus to go live by December 2026
  • The second facility in the city is also underway, expected in Q3 2026

What happened: Jakarta chosen for major AI data centre build

EDGNEX Data Centers by DAMAC has revealed plans to build a large AI-focused data centre in Jakarta. The project will be supported by a US$2.3 billion investment. The facility will have a total capacity of 144 megawatts (MW), designed specifically for high-density AI workloads. The first part of the project will be ready by December 2026. The land for the site was acquired in March 2025, and construction is now beginning.

This data centre is part of a wider plan by EDGNEX in Southeast Asia. The company has already committed over US$3 billion in investments in the region. The Jakarta facility is expected to play a central role in supporting the area’s growing digital needs. Alongside this large project, EDGNEX is also working on a smaller data centre in Jakarta with a 19.2MW capacity. This second facility is expected to be completed by the third quarter of 2026.

Why it’s important

The new data centre is significant because it is being built to handle the rising demand for AI and cloud services in Southeast Asia. Jakarta, as a major city in the region, is becoming a key location for this type of infrastructure. The data centre will help support businesses that rely on high-performance computing, making it an important part of the city’s digital transformation.

This development is also important for the broader region. Southeast Asia has seen a strong rise in demand for data centres as more companies adopt digital technologies. The facility in Jakarta will not only serve local needs but also provide energy-efficient infrastructure. EDGNEX aims to meet global sustainability standards with a Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) target of 1.32. This will help reduce the environmental impact of running such large facilities while meeting the growing demand for computing power in the region.
