What happened: Deutsche Telekom deploys AI-driven RAN management system
Deutsche Telekom (DT) has rolled out its AI-powered RAN Guardian Agent, an autonomous system that analyses and manages radio access network (RAN) performance. The platform, developed with Google, operates on the Gemini 2.5 model and uses Google CloudRun, BigQuery, and Firestore services.
The agent continuously scans publicly available information such as online directories and social media to detect upcoming events in Germany. It estimates their scale, determines location, and categorises them. Based on this data, the system predicts potential network strain, analyses antenna capacity, and proposes optimisation strategies.
Another AI component executes approved recommendations, reallocating network resources or adjusting configurations, and documents all actions. Deutsche Telekom says tasks that previously took an hour can now be completed in minutes.
Abdu Mudesir, board member for product and technology, said the platform is a major step toward autonomous, self-healing networks, combining AI and human expertise to enhance customer experience.

Why it’s important
The launch highlights the growing use of AI in telecom operations, improving network resilience and efficiency. Real-time monitoring allows operators to respond faster to disruptions and optimise resources more effectively.
Other operators are also exploring AI RAN solutions. For example, Canadian operator Telus has deployed an AI-powered RAN intelligent controller with Samsung. The trend reflects the industry’s push toward automation and predictive network management, vital for handling increasing data demand and ensuring consistent service.
