• ChronoScale plans to deploy about 50MW of NVIDIA GB300 AI compute for Microsoft at a dedicated North American data centre
  • Completion is targeted for Q1 2027, but the project still depends on financing, facility readiness, hardware delivery and commissioning

The fact

ChronoScale has signed a two-year agreement with Microsoft to deploy about 50MW of AI compute capacity in North America. The deal was signed on 6 August and announced publicly on 27 August, although ChronoScale has not disclosed the location of the dedicated data centre. The deployment is planned around NVIDIA GB300 NVL72 systems, supported by liquid cooling, networking, storage and other data-centre infrastructure. ChronoScale is targeting completion in the first quarter of 2027.

To meet that schedule, ChronoScale must procure and install the GPU clusters while also completing the surrounding infrastructure needed to run them. Its filings say the project still depends on financing and on development, construction and operating milestones. Some contractual obligations are tied to penalties or credits for Microsoft if they are not met.

The assessment

The Microsoft agreement puts ChronoScale on a delivery schedule for the full 50MW deployment. The company now has to line up financing, data-centre construction, and GPU procurement so that the site and the computing equipment are ready together. A delay in any one of those areas could hold up the capacity promised to Microsoft.

That makes the GB300 systems only one part of the job. ChronoScale still needs the electrical and cooling infrastructure, fibre connectivity and other facility systems required to run them. GPUs delivered to an unfinished site cannot provide service, while a completed building is not usable AI capacity until the equipment has been installed, connected and commissioned.

For BTW readers, the agreement is still one step removed from operating capacity. ChronoScale is targeting Q1 2027, but financing, site readiness and commissioning all have to come together before Microsoft receives the planned 50MW. Until then, the figure describes the scale of the deployment, not capacity already in service.

What to watch

Watch for ChronoScale to disclose financing and the deployment site, followed by evidence that power, cooling and other facility systems are ready for the GB300 installation. GPU deliveries, commissioning and confirmation of completion by Q1 2027 will establish how much of the planned 50MW has moved into service.
