The fact
India's Centre for Development of Telematics, or C-DOT, unveiled 14 quantum-security products on 31 August during its 43rd Foundation Day in New Delhi. C-DOT is the telecom research and development centre of India's Department of Telecommunications. The portfolio covers quantum key distribution, or QKD, and post-quantum cryptography, or PQC.
Among the products is Q-AKSHAY CD, a compact 1U fibre-based QKD system designed to generate and distribute encryption keys over fibre networks. C-DOT also unveiled Q-AKSHAY MD, which uses a measurement-device-independent QKD protocol. The announcement did not name a telecom operator or government network already using the products, disclose procurement volumes or provide a deployment timetable.
The assessment
C-DOT has moved from describing quantum-security research to presenting specific systems that network teams can evaluate. The 1U Q-AKSHAY CD, for example, is packaged for a conventional equipment rack, making installation alongside existing network equipment a practical possibility rather than only a laboratory exercise.
That still leaves the harder deployment work ahead. Operators need to establish where these systems fit in existing networks, how they connect with current fibre and security infrastructure and whether their performance holds up outside controlled demonstrations. C-DOT has not yet published evidence from a named production deployment.

What to watch
Watch for named telecom or government trials, procurement orders and field results. For the QKD systems, fibre distance, key-generation performance and interoperability with existing network equipment will matter. For the PQC products, deployments should show which network functions are being migrated and how they continue to work with existing systems.
