What happened:XLSmart names iBasis as authentication gateway
XLSmart, the Indonesian operator created from the recent $6.5bn merger of XL Axiata and Smartfren, has appointed iBasis as the exclusive international and domestic gateway for its mobile authentication traffic.
According to iBasis, the company will now handle all authentication requests into XLSmart’s network prefixes, providing a single, secure route for traffic. The move comes shortly after iBasis expanded its footprint by acquiring Telstra International’s wholesale contracts.
Feby Sallyanto, chief enterprise business solution officer at XLSmart, said the collaboration allows the operator to optimise aggregation and secure transport across the market, adding that iBasis’s global network and operational expertise ensure “seamless delivery” to XLSmart customers.

Why it’s important
The management of authentication traffic is a critical issue for telcos worldwide, underpinning everything from enterprise mobility to consumer banking. By concentrating this through iBasis, XLSmart increases fraud and spoofing protection while complying to internationally accepted best practices that include the security recommendations established down by the GSMA. Such protections are necessary for Indonesia, one of the mobile markets alongside the fastest rate development in the world.
With corporate customers who depend on dependable and compliant authentication infrastructure, the partnership builds up XLSmart’s long-term strategy for expanding its enterprise business and supply greater online services. This deal also underscores iBasis’s growing role in the global telco security ecosystem. Its established expertise in voice and messaging interconnect services makes it a credible partner for handling sensitive authentication flows at scale.
As digital transformation accelerates across Asia-Pacific, arrangements like this highlight the importance of secure, standards-based interconnection in sustaining consumer confidence and enterprise growth.
