Musk and Widodo met in Bali after attending the World Water Forum. Minister Luhut Pandjaitan made the offer for the plant, mentioning Musk’s interest in exploring the possibility. Musk’s immediate response wasn’t available.

Luhut also mentioned that Widodo urged Musk to explore investing in an AI center within Indonesia and to consider constructing a launchpad for SpaceX on Biak Island in Papua province, a proposal previously presented by the government. Indonesia has long sought to attract Tesla to establish manufacturing facilities for electric vehicles, leveraging its abundant nickel resources to bolster the EV sector’s development.

On Sunday, Musk had launched SpaceX’s satellite internet service for the health sector in Indonesia.

Starlink was now available commercially, but the government would focus its services first on outer and underdeveloped regions.
