Alphabet Inc.’s CEO, Sundar Pichai, has revealed strategic changes to Google’s workplace team structure aimed at accelerating the development of artificial intelligence products and services. In a recent communication to employees, Pichai announced the consolidation of models, research, and responsible AI teams under Google DeepMind, the company’s premier artificial intelligence division.
Consolidation of AI teams and computing power
To expedite work on Google’s AI models, Gemini and Gemma, employees from Google Research and Google DeepMind will merge into a unified team. This consolidation aims to streamline efforts and consolidate the expensive computing power required for training AI systems under one division of the company.
Additionally, responsible AI teams across the business will be relocated under Google DeepMind to align efforts and resources for more efficient AI development.
