Summary
- American Tower's readable quarterly series puts revenue at 2,749 million US dollars in the quarter ended 30 June 2026 against 2,738 million in the quarter ended 31 March 2026: a sequential gain of 11 million, roughly 0.4 per cent. The prior sequential step, from December 2025 to March 2026, was zero.
- Net income did something quite different. It rose from 366.8 million dollars in the quarter ended 30 June 2025 to 853.3 million in the quarter ended 30 September 2025 — a rise of 486.5 million, about 2.33 times — on a revenue increase of only 3.4 per cent, and then held in a narrow 820.7 to 867.5 million band for four consecutive quarters.
- The measures that could decompose either movement were not obtained as readable text on 19 October 2026: no organic tenant billings definition with a reconciliation, no currency translation figure, no segment or geographic revenue split, no adjusted EBITDA, no funds-from-operations bridge, no site or tenancy count, no churn figure, no customer-concentration percentage, no maintenance-versus-discretionary capital split and no debt maturity ladder.
- That is a retrieval boundary, not an allegation. It means the growth rate this company discusses cannot currently be tested by an outsider, and the durability of it cannot be tested at all.
What the published record actually contains
The company's third-quarter 2026 results are scheduled for release to the news services at 7:00 a.m. ET on Tuesday, 27 October 2026, according to the company's own scheduling notice carried on the wire (https://www.morningstar.com/news/business-wire/20260929819201/american-tower-plans-third-quarter-2026-earnings-release-and-conference-call). That sentence is the only statement in this review that comes from a company-issued document. It establishes a date. It establishes no financial figure whatsoever, for the coming quarter or any earlier one.
Everything else here comes from structured third-party financial pages. The annual series, in millions of US dollars with a January-to-December fiscal year, reads 9,357 for 2021, 9,645 for 2022, 10,012 for 2023, 10,127 for 2024 and 10,645 for 2025, with 10,942 for the trailing twelve months to 30 June 2026 (https://stockanalysis.com/stocks/amt/financials/). Those increments are uneven: 288 million, then 367 million, then 115 million, then 518 million. An annual growth number built from them is a residual of many things, and nothing in the readable page separates those things.
The quarterly series is more informative because it is tighter. Revenue and net income, in millions of dollars, with earnings per share in dollars: the quarter ended 31 March 2025, 2,563 and 488.7 and 1.04; 30 June 2025, 2,627 and 366.8 and 0.78; 30 September 2025, 2,717 and 853.3 and 1.82; 31 December 2025, 2,738 and 820.7 and 1.76; 31 March 2026, 2,738 and 859.5 and 1.84; 30 June 2026, 2,749 and 867.5 and 1.86 (https://stockanalysis.com/stocks/amt/financials/?p=quarterly).
Read as arithmetic rather than as a headline, three things stand out. The four most recent quarters sum to exactly the 10,942 million trailing-twelve-month figure on the annual page, so the two tables are internally consistent. Sequential revenue growth decelerated to nothing between December 2025 and March 2026 and then to 0.4 per cent. And the earnings step between June and September 2025 is roughly five times larger, in dollars, than the revenue increase that accompanied it.
Three claims that are usually read as one
A reported revenue figure, an organic growth rate and a durability claim are three different statements, and the published record supports them unevenly.
The first is arithmetic and the record supports it directly: revenue rose, quarter after quarter, from 2,563 million to 2,749 million across five sequential periods. The second requires a defined perimeter — which sites count, which currency basis applies, which acquired or disposed assets are excluded, what the comparative period is — and a bridge back to reported revenue. The record contains neither.
The third requires evidence that whatever produced the second will persist: contract tenure with named tenant classes, a tenancy or churn count, the split between maintenance and growth capital, and the maturity profile of the debt that the assets carry. The record contains none of it.
This matters because a tower business is sold to investors on exactly that chain. Tenants sign long leases, rent escalates contractually, the same steel serves additional equipment, and the resulting cash flow is meant to be bond-like. Every link in that chain is a disclosure item. The readable pages give the endpoint and not the chain.
The exhibits that would settle it
The missing material is specific, and it is the kind of thing a listed issuer normally files. Four documents would close most of the gap.
First, the company's own stated definition of its organic tenant billings growth measure, together with a numeric reconciliation to reported property revenue rather than a paragraph describing the concept. Second, a currency translation line, because a tower operator earns in many currencies and translates into dollars; a reported increase that is partly translation is not an increase from the same assets. Third, a site or tenancy count with a churn or cancellation figure, which would convert lease-up from an adjective into a quantity.
Fourth, the net income to funds-from-operations bridge, a capital expenditure split and a debt maturity schedule, which together determine whether the elevated earnings level is recurring or a one-period effect.
Without the first two, composition is unplumbable. Without the third, occupancy is a narrative. Without the fourth, the earnings level is a number without a mechanism.
What the 27 October release would have to contain
If the release carries a reconciliation of an organic measure to reported revenue, with a stated translation effect, then the composition becomes checkable and this gap closes on that date. If it carries consolidated revenue, consolidated adjusted earnings and a qualitative statement about demand, with exclusions described only in prose, then the growth rate remains asserted rather than decomposed, and that is itself the finding.
The distinguishing test is mechanical rather than rhetorical: does the document contain a table in which the components add to a reported total, or does it contain a sentence asserting that the components did well? An outsider can recompute the first and can only accept or reject the second.
The boundary on this account
The company's own periodic filing was not read for this article. The regulator's filing index for American Tower returned no readable text when requested on 19 October 2026 (https://www.sec.gov/cgi-bin/browse-edgar?action=getcompany&CIK=0001053507&type=10-Q&dateb=&owner=include&count=40), and the investor-relations results pages returned no excerpt on repeated requests the same day.
That is an access outcome inside one review, and it must not be dressed up as a disclosure failure. Companies publish documents that aggregators and indexes fail to serve all the time. What can be said is narrower and still useful: on 19 October 2026, an outside reader using ordinary public sources could obtain American Tower's revenue, net income and earnings per share history, and could not obtain the reconciliation that would explain either the flat sequential revenue or the step change in earnings.
One further caution belongs in the record. Net income falling to 366.8 million dollars in the June 2025 quarter — below the 488.7 million of the preceding March quarter — makes any year-on-year comparison measured off that quarter flattering by construction. A headline that net income rose 136 per cent year on year is arithmetically true and analytically empty, because the base is a trough the company has since left behind.
