Underlying this advanced network infrastructure, Vodafone Egypt signed EGP 30 billion worth of service agreements with Telecom Egypt late 2024. This partnership secures fibre-optic support for its sites through to the 2030s and underscores synergy with Egypt’s national digital transformation strategy.

Vodafone Egypt embraces AI and local industry

In response to the complexities of 5G and heavy data usage, Vodafone is integrating artificial intelligence for dynamic network optimisation—traffic management, spectrum slicing, and self-organising networks (SON). This helps pre-empt congestion and faults, especially during peak hours in cities like Cairo and Alexandria.

On the local manufacturing front, a 2024 partnership with ELSEWEDY ELECTRIC aims to produce telecom essentials—cables, batteries, and antennas—locally. CFO Rasha Al-Azhari described it as “a crucial step towards localising telecommunications equipment production in Egypt”. This initiative aligns with Egypt’s Vision 2030 to reduce import reliance, support employment, and boost technological sovereignty.

Egypt’s telecom industry still faces hurdles—bringing reliable connectivity to rural areas, ensuring affordable plans for low-income users, and reinforcing cybersecurity amid rising digital threats. Vodafone Egypt is tackling these openly, investing in rural fibre-optic rollout via its Telecom Egypt partnership and engaging in GSMA-led policy efforts to foster healthier sector competition and infrastructure development.
