The event was three operating PoPs, not a national fibre plan

The earlier article described a broad plan to expand fibre connectivity across the country. The disclosed event was narrower and more concrete: TelCables Brasil said three PoPs had entered operation in Belo Horizonte. TeleTime and Tele.Síntese reported the activation on 11 March; a company-supplied release dated 16 March repeated the deployment and the total of 10 PoPs in Brazil.

Sonda, Century and Sempre Telecom are the three named hosting data centres. TelCables Brasil is a subsidiary of Angola Cables. The announcement concerns equipment and interconnection presence inside those facilities; it does not establish a new access-fibre footprint, household coverage or a build across Brazilian regions.

A PoP changes the hand-off point, not the last mile

A point of presence gives networks a local place to buy or exchange connectivity. TelCables said the Belo Horizonte sites support IP Transit, data transport and interconnection for regional ISPs, operators, data centres and enterprises, with onward access to the Angola Cables global network.

That can shorten a route when a customer can connect locally instead of reaching a more distant city. It does not by itself add access lines to homes, guarantee that traffic will take a shorter path, or prove lower application latency. Those outcomes depend on customer connections, routing policy, upstream paths, congestion and the service actually purchased.

The benefits are company claims without a published baseline

TelCables attributes better performance for latency-sensitive applications, more local interconnection choices, greater stability and additional route alternatives to the deployment. It also says the PoPs improve resilience and redundancy. The reports reviewed here repeat those statements but publish no before-and-after round-trip time, packet loss, outage minutes, route-diversity test, traffic level or service-level result.

The distinction matters because three physical or logical presences are not automatically three independent failure domains. Public material does not identify power feeds, fibre entrances, upstream diversity, equipment ownership, peering networks or failover tests at Sonda, Century and Sempre Telecom. Resilience should therefore be treated as an intended network property, not a measured result.

A later network page adds topology, not launch proof

When checked on 15 July 2026, Angola Cables' network page listed all three Belo Horizonte facilities and showed 100 Gbps backhaul entries from São Paulo to Belo Horizonte and from Belo Horizonte to Rio de Janeiro. That is a useful later snapshot of the published topology, separate from the March announcement.

The page does not state whether 100 Gbps is lit, contracted, protected or available capacity, nor does it provide utilization or a service commitment. It should not be used to infer the capacity of each PoP, a customer experience result or the total throughput available in Belo Horizonte.

The cloud node is an option, not a committed deployment

TelCables said it was evaluating further investment in Belo Horizonte, including a future cloud node intended to place compute and storage nearer to users. No vendor, location, launch date, power envelope, storage or compute capacity, customer, budget or approval was disclosed.

The defensible reading is therefore bounded: three named PoPs were reported as operating and expanded TelCables' local interconnection surface. Whether they attract networks, carry material traffic, improve measured performance or support a cloud node requires later operating evidence.

What to watch

  • Which networks or customers connect at Sonda, Century and Sempre Telecom, and when.
  • Per-site port capacity, lit backhaul, utilization and traffic growth rather than nominal topology.
  • Measured latency, packet loss, availability and route diversity before and after local interconnection.
  • Whether the three sites have independent power, fibre entrances, upstream paths and tested failover.
  • Commercial take-up of IP Transit, data transport and interconnection in Minas Gerais.
  • A funded specification and launch date for any Belo Horizonte cloud node.
