The great attraction of Sun ‘N Fun Aerospace Expo

Hundreds of thousands of people from all over the world are in Lakeland to help kick off the 50th annual Sun N’ Fun Aerospace Expo.

This year’s event is expected to be bigger than ever before. People from 80 countries are being represented in this year’s expo.

Many aviation aficionados, like Chicago native Jon Eisele, dream of attending this event. Eisele says that his family couldn’t always afford it, so when he finally got to come here as a 20-year-old it is a really big deal for him.

“We run into the sky like a Greek myth,” Eisele describes. “It’s kind of like if you’ve ever seen a drone show, and you watch all the drone’s kind of changing formation and assembling. You see the same thing, except it is real people up there.”

Sun ‘N Fun goes beyond a mere participation event, and for many it has become a family tradition rooted in a passion for aviation. A vibrant atmosphere and diverse activities, including camping under the wings of an aircraft, watching nightly fly-shows, and food tasting.

Flight experience of Hexa

Hexa is an entirely new type of aircraft that anyone can fly. To fly the Hexa, a 45-minute instruction class is followed by a flight in the simulator in preparation to fly the vehicle. A simulator is set up in the exhibit area.

The experience lasts around 2 hours and involves comprehensive ground training, which allows clients to familiarize with the aircraft and its controls before flying the aircraft in a virtual reality flight simulator, providing a realistic taste of what comes next. Once trained, participants can fly Hexa on their own, guided by qualified flight instructors and without the need for a pilot’s license.
