• Nebius will lease data-centre capacity from Vantage in Newport, adding another UK location for its AI cloud infrastructure
  • The agreement extends a UK build-out that already includes deployments at Kao Data and Ark Data Centres

The fact

AI cloud company Nebius will lease data-centre capacity from Vantage Data Centers at its Newport campus in South Wales. The agreement gives Nebius another UK location where it can deploy the computing infrastructure used to provide its AI cloud services.

Nebius has been expanding its UK footprint through third-party data-centre facilities. In June, the company said it was committing approximately £1.7 billion to capacity development across four UK sites. Three new NVIDIA infrastructure deployments are expected to reach a combined 65MW when fully ramped in 2027. Nebius has also agreed to take 22MW at Kao Data's Harlow campus and has expanded its deployment at Ark Data Centres' Longcross Park.

The assessment

The Newport agreement separates ownership of the data-centre facility from operation of the AI infrastructure inside it. Vantage operates the site and its supporting facility infrastructure, while Nebius can install and run the servers, networking equipment and software used for its AI cloud. Leasing the space does not make it active AI capacity immediately. Nebius still has to install and commission its computing equipment before the Newport deployment can serve customers. The amount of capacity it takes and the hardware installed will determine how much the site contributes to its UK operations.

For BTW readers, Newport should therefore be treated as a Nebius deployment location rather than a Nebius-owned data centre. The practical milestone is when the installed computing infrastructure is commissioned and available through Nebius's cloud platform.

What to watch

Details of the capacity allocated to Nebius, the hardware deployment and the commissioning schedule will clarify the scale of the Newport site. Confirmation that the infrastructure is operational will show when the leased space becomes active AI capacity rather than contracted data-centre capacity.
