Tackling global health challenges through Jhpiego innovation

Innovation is a key part of Jhpiego’s work. The organisation develops point-of-care diagnostics, digital tools to monitor pregnancies, and smart devices for early detection of postpartum haemorrhage. Jhpiego also uses predictive analytics to assess maternal risks and offers simulation-based training for midwives and nurses.

In India, its support helped establish Health and Wellness Centres and expand COVID-19 vaccination to over 56 million people. Across many countries, digital systems now assist frontline workers with patient tracking and service improvements.

Yet challenges persist. Funding uncertainty, weak infrastructure, and limited access to digital tools continue to affect care in many regions. In early 2025, Jhpiego announced global staff reductions in response to projected U.S. federal budget cuts. Antimicrobial resistance and emerging diseases also put pressure on health systems.

Despite these setbacks, Jhpiego remains committed to building resilient, equitable healthcare. Its focus on practical, scalable solutions and long-term partnerships ensures that it continues to shape the future of global health.
