- DC North adds a fully operational 4MW carrier-neutral data centre in Varaždin to Ilkari's European infrastructure operations
- The Croatian facility retains its existing on-site teams and connects directly to internet exchange points in Austria, Hungary and Slovenia
The Fact
Ilkari has integrated DC North in Varaždin, Croatia, into its European operations, adding a fully operational 4MW carrier-neutral data centre to a platform that already includes infrastructure in Iceland and Colombia. The facility, around 70 kilometres north of Zagreb, provides direct connectivity to internet exchange points in Austria, Hungary, and Slovenia.
DC North holds Uptime Tier III Design and Facility certification, several ISO certifications and PCI DSS compliance. Ilkari said the site is also aligned with the EU's Digital Operational Resilience Act. Its existing management, operations and technical teams will remain in place while integration continues. Ownership is separate from Ilkari's operating role: Gnomon Capital acquired DC North in May from Cratis and Muraplast, while local reporting says Cratis remains involved as a managed-cloud partner.
The assessment
Ilkari is adding an operating facility rather than waiting for a new data centre to be built. DC North already has power, customers, network connections, and an on-site team, giving Ilkari a physical base inside the EU that can be connected to its wider colocation and sovereign-cloud business.
The next step is making those services work together. Ilkari launched its sovereign cloud earlier this year for use within its own data-centre environments, but it has not said which cloud services are already running from Varaždin or whether customers can move workloads between Croatia and its other locations. Those details will determine how much the integration changes what customers can actually buy.
For BTW readers, DC North gives Ilkari another place to host regulated or data-residency-sensitive workloads inside Europe. The useful test is whether the company turns that facility into part of a working multi-site service rather than simply adding another location to its portfolio.
What to watch
Watch for Ilkari Cloud becoming available from DC North, new customer deployments in Varaždin and services that connect the Croatian facility with Ilkari's other locations. Expansion beyond the site's current 4MW capacity would provide another sign that the integration is producing additional demand rather than remaining mainly an organisational change.
