Summary
- CCAMP asks OIF for relevant work-in-progress on future CMIS and C-CMIS so the two standards tracks can move in parallel.
- The liaison calls two pluggable-optics drafts ongoing; Datatracker marks both expired, while a separate DWDM interface model remains active.
A pluggable optical module meets its host at one interface. A network controller sees the device through another. The first boundary belongs to module-facing CMIS; the second is where CCAMP’s YANG models expose configuration, state and telemetry northbound. On 28 October, CCAMP put a question at the join between those interfaces into a formal action request to OIF: which module information should the host make available to a controller, and how will that model keep up with future module specifications?
The liaison makes the distinction unusually concrete. CCAMP calls for selective exposure through YANG and names carrier central frequency as a parameter the host must surface. A field can be readable by the host through CMIS and still stay outside the controller’s northbound model. Putting it in YANG gives hosts and controllers a common field to work with. The liaison pins down the field at stake; an implementation record would show how a product exposes it.
CCAMP describes three strands of work: operator use cases and packet-over-optical scenarios; host- or controller-facing YANG models; and a gap analysis against existing IETF and other standards work, including OIF. It says CMIS and YANG are complementary, then asks OIF to share relevant work in progress on future CMIS and C-CMIS versions. The stated purpose is to update YANG in parallel so a host implementing the IETF models can support future features in the OIF specifications.
The paperwork carries a status problem of its own. The liaison calls draft-ietf-ccamp-actn-poi-pluggable-usecases-gaps work in progress. Datatracker lists its latest revision as 01, dated 29 April 2025, and the Internet-Draft as expired and archived. The liaison also calls draft-ietf-ccamp-actn-wdm-pluggable-modelling work in progress. Its current record shows revision 00, dated 9 January 2026, last updated on 20 July and expired. Those are the two named pluggable-work records; their public labels do not match the liaison’s present-tense description.
CCAMP’s optical YANG work also has an active line. draft-ietf-ccamp-dwdm-if-param-yang-16 remains an active Internet-Draft, and Datatracker’s validator reported zero errors and zero warnings on 29 October. The liaison says that model is getting ready for CCAMP Working Group Last Call. The status gap is narrower and more actionable: the cross-SDO request needs current, linkable source documents for the particular pluggable features being mapped.
The IETF record shows the request as “For action,” with a 16 November 2026 deadline. It carries no OIF response; a posted reply and versioned updates to the cited drafts would change this account.
