Summary

  • LACNIC lets member administrators voluntarily publish country, region and city information for IP blocks and makes the records downloadable as CSV.
  • BTW analysis: the feed is useful evidence only while member administrators keep it current; LACNIC does not guarantee geolocation truth.

Registration data can identify the organization receiving a resource, yet that organization’s legal domicile may differ from the network location where addresses are used. LACNIC built Geofeeds so member administrators can voluntarily publish the latter.

The output is public and downloadable as CSV. That makes it usable by systems, but not self-validating. LACNIC says the information is as reliable as the member-supplied data and notes that RIRs do not guarantee geolocation information.

Coverage and freshness therefore matter. The sources do not prove that every prefix is present, every city is independently verified or every downstream provider refreshes on the same schedule. A geofeed should be read as a dated operational declaration.
