Summary
- Catherine Middleton took ARIN’s third Board seat with 569 votes, five ahead of Kevin Blumberg’s 564; both exceeded half of the 1,073 participating member organizations.
- The 2026 ballot allowed selection of up to three Board candidates, so the top three ranks—not a simple majority threshold—filled the seats.
ARIN’s 2026 Board election left five organizational votes between a three-year trustee term and fourth place. The registry’s final tally gave Tina Morris 716 votes, Dan Alexander 634, Catherine Middleton 569 and Kevin Blumberg 564. Three seats were open. Middleton takes the last one on 1 January 2027. Blumberg’s 52.56% looks like a win in a single-choice contest; here it came five votes and 0.47 percentage points behind Middleton’s 53.03%.
The arithmetic is a feature of the ballot, not a glitch in ARIN’s percentages. Voting contacts could select up to three Board candidates, ARIN said in its meeting recap. The final report counted 1,073 General Member organizations voting through 898 contacts, or 45.7% of 2,350 eligible organizations. One contact can carry votes for several organizations; ARIN’s election process says the organization is the voter. Candidate percentages therefore share the same 1,073-organization denominator while votes may go to more than one name. A candidate can win a majority of participating organizations and still finish outside the three available seats.
ARIN posted the verified results on 2 November. The announcement says the president and CEO, election officer and chief legal officer confirmed the tally and procedures; Board and Advisory Council quorum was met. The public table gives aggregate counts, not individual ballot combinations. Those combinations would show how often the two candidates for the last Board place appeared together, but the decisive published fact is simpler: five organizational votes separated third from fourth.
