Summary
- IANA lists AS329728-AS330751 as assigned by AFRINIC on 25 February 2026; the inclusive range contains 1,024 AS numbers.
- AFRINIC announced on 27 March that it had received the block and added it to inventory, but neither source says every ASN was already assigned to a network operator.
AFRINIC’s announcement and the IANA registry describe two points in one custody chain. IANA’s registry provides the upstream entry: the range 329728-330751 is assigned by AFRINIC, with AFRINIC WHOIS and RDAP services listed for the block. AFRINIC’s later notice says it received the allocation and updated both its website and ASN inventory.
The distinction is operationally important. IANA allocates AS numbers to Regional Internet Registries. RIRs then allocate or assign individual numbers to network operators under regional policy. An upstream block can therefore be present in AFRINIC’s inventory while particular numbers remain available. The public sources do not provide a complete operator-by-operator allocation ledger for the block.
The evidence supports a narrow conclusion: the block entered AFRINIC’s administrative pool. It does not prove ownership, exhaustion, service quality or institutional legitimacy.
