Summary
- AFRINIC’s 17 June 2026 final-slate notice names five candidates for three Governance Committee seats and attributes their eligibility to NomCom.
- The notice states the outcome of eligibility screening but does not show candidate-by-candidate assessments, rejection reasons or the size of the original nomination pool.
AFRINIC opened three Governance Committee seats in its 8 May 2026 call for candidates. That call said every candidature had to be supported by two AFRINIC Resource Members in good standing. It also listed general conditions, including legal-capacity, residency and integrity requirements, and reserved the right to disqualify nominees for election malpractice.
The initial call placed candidate vetting and verification between 30 May and 10 June. AFRINIC later announced on 5 June that the nomination deadline had been extended to 8 June. The frozen sources establish those published dates, but they do not give the exact time at which each eligibility decision was made.
The final-slate notice, dated 17 June, lists Daniel Khauka Nanghaka, Afaf El Maayati, Marie Michel Eddy Lareine, Maud Adjeley Ashong Elliot and Ahlal Mohamed for the Governance Committee. It says that the named candidates had been found eligible under the applicable Election Guidelines and links to fuller candidate information.
That is a useful public result: members can see the five-name field for three seats. It is not, however, an eligibility audit trail. The notice does not set out which supporting documents were checked for each person, how each general requirement was applied, whether any Governance Committee nomination was excluded, or why. It also does not state how many nominations NomCom originally received.
Those absences must be read narrowly. They do not prove that no assessment was performed, that no fuller record exists, or that any listed candidate was ineligible. They also do not establish that an unlisted person was rejected. The defensible conclusion is limited to the public notice: it publishes the slate and the eligibility conclusion, not the individual reasoning behind it.
AFRINIC’s later results notice, dated 3 July, names three elected Governance Committee members. That later result closes the candidate-to-office sequence, but it does not supply NomCom’s earlier candidate-level eligibility assessments.
A clearer record could pair each final slate with a versioned eligibility matrix. The public version could identify the requirement, the type of evidence checked, the determination and any privacy-preserving explanation, without disclosing sensitive personal documents. It could also state the number of nominations received and the count, not necessarily the identities, of nominations withdrawn, incomplete or found ineligible.
