  • The 250 MW-plus campus will cover more than two million sq ft and run entirely on renewable power.
  • Equinix plans to retain over half the land as open space and deliver a 10% biodiversity gain.

What happened: Equinix rebrands DC01UK as Hertfordshire Campus

Equinix has purchased the under-construction facility previously known as DC01UK, located on an 85-acre plot in South Mimms, Hertfordshire, near the M25.

Now rebranded as the Hertfordshire Campus, the site will feature more than two million square feet of space and deliver over 250 MW of capacity. The company will invest around $5.2 billion in the project, with completion expected around 2029.

Equinix said 100% of the power will come from renewable sources, and the site will use dry-cooling technology to minimise water use. More than half of the land will remain undeveloped, supporting a 10% biodiversity net gain.

Why it’s important

The project is Equinix’s largest European investment and adds major capacity to the UK’s digital infrastructure at a time when demand for AI, cloud, and high-performance computing is accelerating.

The government has welcomed the project as part of its drive to expand data-centre investment. Officials say it will create hundreds of jobs and strengthen the UK’s role in global data connectivity.

Equinix already operates 14 data centres across the UK, and this development will roughly double its national footprint. The sustainable design also signals a shift in how hyperscale operators balance growth with environmental responsibility.
